Sweet potatoes are a regular feature on the Sidewalk Chef Fresh Express menu, available as a side for the protein and soup or salad of your choice. Sweet potatoes can complement just about any meal, but are extremely popular in the fall time. Think sweet potato casserole, roasted sweet potatoes with butternut squash, and the classic – sweet potato fries! But, why eat sweet potatoes? Great question! There are plenty of reasons to eat sweet potatoes, seeing as they’re rich in fiber, a great source of vitamins and minerals, and full of antioxidants.
Don’t take our word for it – studies have shown that incorporating sweet potatoes into your diet can help prevent diseases, and the American Diabetes Association classifies sweet potatoes as a “diabetes superfood.” Swap out your regular fries for sweet potatoes, and if you’re craving something sweet, add a pinch of cinnamon to top it off.
Sweet potatoes can be prepared a number of different ways too. Even just roasting them with plenty of spices and some olive oil is a quick and delicious way to eat sweet potatoes. And yes – you can eat the skin, too! The skin of sweet potatoes is where you get the fiber and potassium, two important facets of a healthy diet. Leave the skin on next time you roast some sweet potatoes for an extra health kick!
