Take a look at the five S’s of health below to start your own journey to health and wellness today!
Sweat
“Sweat comes in many forms,” says Dr. Sandy. “It’s not enough to just do yoga, or just lift, or just do cardio. The synergy of all contributes to optimal health and dementia prevention.” It’s also critical for detox. Dr. Sandy recommends a minimum of 20 minutes a day. Need a coach? Dr. Sandy can help!
Supplements
Don’t just buy supplements on Amazon – speak with a licensed health professional to learn what supplements are right for you. “Supplements are to be respected as pharmaceuticals,” she says. “Due diligence matters in not only sourcing supplements, but also in dosing them.”
Sleep
Do you know how much sleep you need a night? Dr. Sandy recommends a minimum of seven hours a night. Turn off electronics 2 hours before bed and don’t eat 3 hours before falling asleep. Slee[ is critical for cognitive function, hormone balance, and detox as well. Make a good night’s rest a priority in your life!
Sand
If you live at the beach, you’ve got the best backyard in the world. Planting your feet in the sand is a great way to decompress – it’s filled with minerals and negative ions, which help implement calm energy. Take your shoes off and go for a walk or run, meditate, or do some yoga in the sand. Dr. Sandy guarantees you’ll be feeling grounded, calm, energized, and balanced. As an added bonus, it’s free!
Sunshine
Another free resource! Vitamin D from the sun is not the same as what you might find in supplements. How much sunshine do you need to really feel its effects? “Get in a minimum of four times a week during midday,” says Dr. Sandy. “The mechanisms of actions from vitamin D are too numerous to count, but understand this: it acts as more of a hormone than anything,” she says. “Vitamin D promotes immune function regulation, positive effects on the cardiovascular system, and cancer prevention.” Just be sure to apply plenty of SPF if you’re spending time in the sun!
